This notice explains how Driver ID uses personal data when you use the Driver ID mobile app.

Driver ID does not require readers to create an account or register their personal details.

It does not cover use of the Driver Codes wallet app. Driver Codes has separate privacy notices and terms available at https://driver.codes.

1.Who we are

RSMT Limited, company number 11744436, registered at 19A Queens Road, Hale, WA15 9HF.

We are the data controller for the processing described in this notice and are registered with the Information Commission under number ZA788385.

The internal lead for data protection matters can be contacted at privacy@driver.codes.

RSMT Limited, the Driver ID and Driver Codes apps are not affiliated to or endorsed by the DVLA.

2.Personal data we collect

Driver ID does not require your name, email address, password or other registration information.

We collect limited device and app usage information through Firebase Analytics, which may include:

  • device type and operating system;
  • app version and language;
  • app installation identifiers;
  • screens viewed and features used; and
  • general performance and diagnostic information.

We may also collect information you provide when contacting us for support.

3.Driving licence checks

Credential requests and responses are exchanged directly between the Driver ID reader device and the holder’s compatible wallet.

RSMT Limited does not collect, receive or store:

  • credential requests or responses;
  • names, portraits or dates of birth;
  • driving licence numbers or entitlements;
  • age-verification results;
  • QR-code contents; or
  • Bluetooth credential data.

Credential verification takes place locally on the reader device.

4.Local history

The app stores a limited check history on the reader device, consisting only of the check type, timestamp and result.

This information is not uploaded to us. It can be removed by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app.

5.How we use data

We use limited analytics and technical information to:

  • operate and maintain the app;
  • understand how its features are used;
  • identify technical problems;
  • improve reliability and usability;
  • protect the app against misuse; and
  • respond to support enquiries.

Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving Driver ID. Where consent is required for analytics technologies, we rely on consent.

6.Sharing and retention

Firebase Analytics information may be processed by Google as our analytics provider.

We may also disclose information to professional advisers, regulators, courts or law-enforcement authorities where required by law.

We do not sell personal data.

Analytics information is retained according to the retention settings applied to our Firebase and Google Analytics services. Support enquiries may be retained for up to three years after they are closed.

7.App permissions

Driver ID may request access to:

  • Bluetooth or nearby devices, to communicate with compatible wallet apps;
  • the camera, to scan QR codes; and
  • local device storage, to store app settings and limited check history.

You can manage these permissions through your device settings. Disabling them may prevent some app features from working.

8.Driver Codes wallet

Driver ID may be used with the Driver Codes wallet app.

Driver Codes is a separate service with its own privacy notices and terms. Those documents apply separately to the wallet, its users and any personal information processed by Driver Codes.

They are available at https://driver.codes.

9.Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have the right to:

  • request access to your personal data;
  • ask for inaccurate data to be corrected;
  • ask for deletion or restriction of processing;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
  • withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

Because Driver ID does not require registration, we may not hold information that allows us to identify you by name.

To exercise your rights, contact privacy@driver.codes.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commission, the UK’s data protection regulator.

10.Changes to this notice

We may update this notice when the app, applicable law or our service providers change.

The latest version will be published at driver.id/privacy.
